Stuart Weiss is a business valuation (BV) practitioner based in Portland, Oregon. He also serves as an expert witness in economic damages cases. In addition to the CPA certificate, he holds BV designations from three of the four U.S. accrediting organizations: Accredited in Business Valuation (AICPA), Certified Valuation Analyst (NACVA) and Accredited in Business Appraisal Review (IBA).
In addition
to his business valuation activities, he is a principal in a family
business where, as treasurer, he is responsible for
investing in real
estate and the stock market. This gives him an important insight into
the dynamics of a small privately-held company. As a result, he understands
the client’s perspective while remaining an objective valuation
professional.
Valuation
reports contain important and useful qualitative information in addition
to numerical values. However, many valuation analysts do
not place enough emphasis on making reports compelling documents. In
contrast, Mr. Weiss has spent many years writing annual reports, business
plans, college textbooks, magazine/newspaper articles and financial
commentaries. He was also a writer for Business Week magazine in New
York covering Wall Street and an analyst with Oppenheimer & Co.
in New York.
Mr. Weiss
is a CPA and holds an MBA and an MS from Stanford University. He
received
his undergraduate degree from
UCLA, graduating Phi Beta
Kappa and Magna Cum Laude. He has taught accounting and finance courses
at the University of Portland, Portland State University and Lewis & Clark
College. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants and the Oregon Society of CPAs.
